While the cleaning of the teeth and a tooth-by-tooth exam is important, there is more tooth structure below the gumline than above. Full-mouth dental radiographs provide a 2-dimensional representation of imaged structures, and until recent years were considered the gold standard for dental imaging. We utilize a newer technology called a cone beam CT scanner which uses less radiation than conventional CT, and gives us 2 and 3 dimensional representation, that can be used to more accurately diagnose disease that would have been missed by dental radiographs alone.
